Though we had hoped to start the financing of students already this first term of the new scholastic year, to our regret we were not able to do so, because we lacked sufficient funds.
In the mean time we have learned a lot about what might and what might not be ways to raise the necessary funds. We discovered f.e. that the Dutch Government does not sustain regular developmental ties with Haiti and so Dutch NGO's are fairly absent on the island, except for emergency aid in the wake of the earthquake of 2010. But our educational program is not suited to count as emergency aid.
So we have to find other ways to finance our project. And there are other ways to do so.
We are working now to attract
- sponsors from relevant business sectors
- unions and umbrella organizations in the educational sector
- schools who want to 'adopt' one or more students
- (island) communities who would like help their colleague-islanders in the western hemisphere
- students in more fortunate circumstances who want to 'adopt' colleague-students in Ile a Vache
- individuals
We are full of confidence that next scholastic year we will be able to help students in Ile a Vache....with your help.
